K

Kinship

Relationship, usually through blood.

The erroneous belief, particularly in times of war, that some people have something in common with other people. Otherwise a meaningless system of relationships which seem to make sense at Christmas.

Kiss of death

An act portending doom.

There is also a kiss of life, which is a medical procedure to assist a patient who has breathing problems. Now that makes sense since the kiss, to a lover, is an affirmation of life. The kiss of death is another of those oxymoron’s.

Kitchen

A place where food is prepared.

A place where men dominate and women excel. Otherwise the graveyard of all hopes and aspirations. Cavemen threw a whole bison on the fire and it was only a disaster if a sabre tooth tiger got there first. Now we look on cooking as a situation of courting then averting disaster. It is the art of preparing food for the stomach rather than for the eye and when it is the subject of a television program it is entertainment for those who have not prepared something earlier.

Kleptomania

Theft as a compulsive or addictive behaviour.

You could say it was the political theory of the re-distribution of property when given credence by the psychiatric profession, or you could just say it was theft when committed by the middle classes.

Knowledge

The opposite of ignorance.

A medical condition which results in an excess of facial hair in some men, or the codification of trivia by those same men. And for other men it is a matter of shame or pride, like the size of their penis.
