UFO
Unidentified flying object.
A flying object which causes many Americans to think that there is a conspiracy on the part of their democratically elected government to tell lies to them. Also a flying object which is only ever seen over First World countries.
Understanding
Comprehension, particularly of the problems of others.
Seeing the worst in other people, then doing nothing about it. Or set against that it is sometimes the ability of a magistrate to see the whole picture, and then hand down a higher sentence.
Unemployed
Without paid work.
The unemployed are often those for whom the prospect of work gets in the way of the process of dying. Other than that an unemployed person could well be someone who did not even want a job as a teacher.
Unexpected visitor
A caller who did not phone or write to let you know they were coming.
Someone who never comes when the flat is tidy, or there is Bach playing on the hi-fi, or the cat hasn’t pissed on the sofa for three weeks. Also it is someone you have not seen for five years but still remembers the £5 that you owe them.
Union
The bringing together of two or more people or objects.
A trades union is a group of workers who have banded together for their common interests and as a result are hated by the tabloid press and ladies who wear blue dresses. The European Union is the political union of the Western European nations, is something which the British fought for in the Second World War, and have fought against ever since.
Unpopularity
Not being popular.
Another of the many proofs of existence, or an option for those who fear responsibility.
